HOT ISSUES


Planning Commission Meets Tonight

The Peachtree City Mayor and Council will meet on Monday, December 11, 7:00 p.m., at City Hall.  The public is welcome.  The agenda includes a public hearing for a request to rezone property at 279 Senoia Rd from AR to LUR Limited Use Residential, landscape plans for Golf Rider (112 Huddleston Rd) and Innovative Pools (105 Guthrie Way), a greenbelt request for Everton Phase 8 (MacDuff Parkway), and a façade request for Dividend East (100 Gardner Park).  The complete agenda and packet are available at www.peachtree-city.org/planningagenda



Smoke Detector Assistance Available

In conjunction with The Metro Atlanta Fire Chiefs Association and ABC's Operation Save a Life, the Peachtree City Fire Department would like to help Peachtree City citizens ensure they are adequately protected by Smoke Alarms.  If you live in Peachtree City and have no working smoke alarms, need assistance checking your smoke alarms, or need assistance with replacing batteries in smoke alarms, please contact Assistant Fire Marshal Jeff Felmet at jfelmet@peachtree-city.org or 770-631-2091. He can schedule a time for Firefighters to come to your home to evaluate your smoke alarms for any issues.



Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over in Peachtree City December 15 – January 2

According to NHTSA, 37,461 people were killed in traffic accidents in 2016, and 28 percent of those fatalities involved a driver with a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit of .08 (the limit in all 50 states). Over the last two years in Peachtree City, the rate of collisions involving a DUI has more than doubled over previous years. Of the two fatality collisions in Peachtree City in 2017, both at fault drivers were impaired. 


The Peachtree City Police Department will be participating in the National Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign, which starts Friday, December 15, and goes through January 2. They will be increasing enforcement in this area to include road checks.  Please help out by designating a sober driver, taking the keys from someone who is impaired, and calling 911 if you suspect someone is driving impaired.

Fire Department Santa Run – Final Weekend

Each year, the Peachtree City Fire Department escorts Santa on an early visit through Peachtree City to help collect non-perishable food and toy donations for those in need this holiday season.  The event began this past weekend and will wrap up December 16 & 17 (Saturday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., and Sunday, 11:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.).  View the estimated route and schedule at http://www.peachtree-city.org/DocumentCenter/View/6512 (emergencies -- and snow -- may alter the schedule).

 

Winter Activities Signup

  • Winter Lego Camps – December 18 – 22 at Kedron Fieldhouse.  Ages 5-7 have morning sessions, ages 7 – 12 afternoons.  Register at www.peachtree-city.org/recreation
  • Learn to Skate with the PTC Inline Hockey League – POSTPONED to Saturday December 16, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m., at 201 Fieldhouse Drive.   Ages 5 and up.  If possible, bring knee and elbow pads, a helmet (bicycle is fine) and skates (inline or roller).  Will can offer some equipment if you don’t have these.  Register at specialevents@ptchockey.com
  • Ultimate Frisbee Tournament – POSTPONED to Saturday, December 30 at the Peachtree City Athletic Complex (PAC). Open to men and women ages 15 and up (15-17 year olds need signed Liability Waiver from parent). Registration fee of $20 includes a jersey.  Sign-in starts at 8:00 a.m., and jersey sizes distributed first come, first served.  Register at https://apm.activecommunities.com/peachtreecityrec/Home (search “frisbee” to get both single and pair options). 





CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS & TRAFFIC ADVISORIES


Utility Projects in Rights-of-Way. 

  • AT&T has obtained encroachment permits to work throughout Fairfield, along MacDuff Parkway, and in the Lexington Circle area,
  • NuLink is continuing work in the rights-of-way installing fiber optic lines in/along:
    • The Marks (North & South)
    • Robinson Road (Peachtree Pkwy S to Crosstown), The Estates, Peachtree Pkwy S (Robinson Rd to Merrywood Ln), The Oaks at Timberlake, and Huntington Place.



Lake Peachtree Spillway Replacement - August 2017 - June 2018. An additional two feet of water is being restored to Lake Peachtree now that the bypass pipe for the cofferdam and construction area has been completed.  This should provide visible (if not very deep) water in the majority of the lake for the remainder of the spillway construction period.   More information, including the lake lowering schedule, is available at http://www.peachtree-city.org/index.aspx?nid=1123

  • Path Detour in effect – NO TRESPASSING!! The spillway construction zone path detour is now in effect and the “No Trespassing” signs will be enforced. The map at http://www.peachtree-city.org/DocumentCenter/View/10447 shows the alternate routes path users will take until the spillway construction zone is cleared.  Automobile drivers on Fishers Luck are asked to use extra caution and reduce speed in the coming months due to the carts sharing roadway.

FSS Presents:  Mastering Mobile Photography – Tuesday, December 12, 11:00 a.m. to Noon, at McIntosh Place (191 McIntosh Trail).  Cell phone cameras have can produce beautiful and high quality photos.  Learn easy tips to taking photos with your cell phone camera and editing from the convenience of your phone. Burn Permits Required – Outdoor burn permits are required for residential yard debris burning.  Visit www.peachtree-city.org/burn to obtain permit for the day of burn (page is updated daily to reflect whether weather conditions allow for burning on that day). 

“My Community Officer” Program – The Peachtree City Police Department’s “My Community Officer” program pairs officers who have volunteered to serve as individual points of contact with each neighborhood in Peachtree City for questions or issues on police related issues.  Learn more at www.peachtree-city.org/MyCommunityOfficer. Recycling – The Peachtree City Recycling Center (off Highway 74 S at Rockaway Road) accepts yard waste and e-waste and is open on Wednesdays, 1:00 – 4:30 p.m., and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Recycling Stations at Public Works are open 24/7 and include a used book drop.
