It’s starting out as a quiet week as we head into the holiday weekend.  Since there won’t be an UPDATES next Monday, Merry Christmas to all!

 

HOT ISSUES


No Council Meeting This Week

The regular meeting of the City Council, scheduled for Thursday, December 21, has been cancelled.  The next regular meeting will be on Thursday, January 4. 



Holiday Hours & Closings


  • The Peachtree City Library will close at 5:00 p.m. all this week and next week (December 18 – 31) due to the holiday break for the schools.  The PTC Library will be closed Sunday, December 24 – Tuesday, December 26, for the Christmas holiday. 


  • All City administrative offices will be CLOSED on Monday, December 25 and Tuesday, December 26. 


  • Kedron Fieldhouse (gyms and pools) will be closed Sunday, December 24 – Tuesday, December 26, for the Christmas holiday. 


  • The Peachtree City Recycling Center will be OPEN on Saturday, December 23, and Saturday, December 30. 



Christmas Tree Recycling

MHS Tree Pickup Fundraiser – The McIntosh Men’s Lacrosse Team will be holding their Christmas Tree Collection Fundraiser again this year – Relax after the holidays and have a MHS Lacrosse player pick up your tree and take it to the recycling center in exchange for a donation to the team.  To schedule your pickup, email mhstree@gmail.com with your preferred date, address, subdivision, and phone number. The pickup dates are:

Bring One for the Chipper on January 6 - The annual drop-off Christmas Tree Recycling will be held on Saturday, January 7, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., at three locations:  Peachtree City Home Depot, behind the Kedron Kroger, and at the Rockaway Road Recycling Center.  Please remove all tinsel and decorations from trees (no flocked trees).

Direct Fire Book Signing with A.J. Tata on January 7

Sunday, January 7, at 2 p.m., Peachtree City Library

General Tata served 28 years in the US Army, and his last combat tour was as the Deputy Commanding General of the Allied and Joint Task Force in Afghanistan, where he earned the combat Action Badge and the Bronze Star. Currently, he is the National Security Expert for One American News Network on Tipping Point. He also appears frequently as a guest commentator on Fox News, the NBC Today Show, the CBS Early Show, and CNN.  General Tata will discuss cyber warfare as it relates to his novel, Direct Fire (Kensington Books, Dec. 26, 2017). The event is free and open to the public, as is coffee and dessert.  Book sales on site.

 

Winter Activities Signup

  • Ultimate Frisbee Tournament – POSTPONED to Saturday, December 30 at the Peachtree City Athletic Complex (PAC). Open to men and women ages 15 and up (15-17 year olds need signed Liability Waiver from parent). Registration fee of $20 includes a jersey.  Sign-in starts at 8:00 a.m., and jersey sizes distributed first come, first served.  Register at https://apm.activecommunities.com/peachtreecityrec/Home (search “frisbee” to get both single and pair options). 




CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS & TRAFFIC ADVISORIES


Utility Projects in Rights-of-Way. 

  • AT&T has obtained encroachment permits to work throughout Fairfield, along MacDuff Parkway, and in the Lexington Circle area,
  • NuLink is continuing work in the rights-of-way installing fiber optic lines in/along:
    • The Marks (North & South)
    • Robinson Road (Peachtree Pkwy S to Crosstown), The Estates, Peachtree Pkwy S (Robinson Rd to Merrywood Ln), The Oaks at Timberlake, and Huntington Place.



Lake Peachtree Spillway Replacement - August 2017 - June 2018.   • Path Detour in effect – NO TRESPASSING!! The spillway construction zone path detour is now in effect and the “No Trespassing” signs will be enforced. The map at http://www.peachtree-city.org/DocumentCenter/View/10447 shows the alternate routes path users will take until the spillway construction zone is cleared.  Automobile drivers on Fishers Luck are asked to use extra caution and reduce speed in the coming months due to the carts sharing roadway.

Join Traci Fuller to discover the ABC’s and many basic signs to this incredible language. This month, focus on holiday and foods. Tree Removal Permits – Tree removal permit applications are reviewed by the Planning and Zoning Department – visit www.peachtree-city.org/tree for FAQ and application.

 

Burn Permits Required – Outdoor burn permits are required for residential yard debris burning.  Visit www.peachtree-city.org/burn to obtain permit for the day of burn (page is updated daily to reflect whether weather conditions allow for burning on that day). 

 

“My Community Officer” Program – The Peachtree City Police Department’s “My Community Officer” program pairs officers who have volunteered to serve as individual points of contact with each neighborhood in Peachtree City for questions or issues on police related issues.  Learn more at www.peachtree-city.org/MyCommunityOfficer. Recycling – The Peachtree City Recycling Center (off Highway 74 S at Rockaway Road) accepts yard waste and e-waste and is open on Wednesdays, 1:00 – 4:30 p.m., and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Recycling Stations at Public Works are open 24/7 and include a used book drop. No aerosol cans or plastic bags can be accepted. For more information, email kptcb@peachtree-city.org or call 770-632-3195.

MedReturn Prescription Disposal Program – Citizens can bring unwanted prescriptions to the PTC Police Station Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (NO needles/sharps, syringes with needles, thermometers, IV bags, bloody or infectious waste, personal care products, empty containers, inhalers, medical equipment, liquids, creams, or hydrogen peroxide).
