State Runoff Election December 4 – Advance Voting Next Week

Advanced Voting for the Run-Off Election will be held Tuesday, November 27 - Friday, November 30, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Peachtree City Library, Fayette County Elections Office, and Tyrone City Hall.  The Run-Off Election will be held on Tuesday, December 4, from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. Vote in you precinct on Election Day.

City Council Summary from November 15

The Peachtree City Mayor & Council met on Thursday, November 15, and took the following actions:

Council approved the Consent Agenda (patrol vehicle accessories Bid, impact fee expenditure for quick response Fire Station 85, contract renewal for United Pools, acceptance of the amended annexation and zoning application for Hwy 54 E (Brent Holdings & Ravin Homes), FY 2018 and FY 2019 budget amendments, ambulance purchase, and settlement of claims by the Huggins Family.  Council also approved several ordinance amendments (hours of sale for alcohol on Sundays, Non-Discrimination Ordinance, Water & Sewerage Authority ordinance amendment, Pre-Trial Intervention Program amendment, and Stormwater Management for New Development.

Under the New Agenda Items, Council unanimously approved the renewal of the Multi-Family Rezoning Moratorium and a request to annex and rezone 23.8 acres on Hwy 54 E at Sumner Road.  A request to rezone 5.1 acres on TDK Boulevard was withdrawn by the applicant.

The next City Council meeting will be held on Thursday, December 6, 6:30 p.m., at City Hall.  The agenda will be available on Friday, November 30 by 5:00 p.m. at www.peachtree-city.org/CouncilAgenda

Hometown Holiday @ Drake Field This Saturday

Peachtree City’s Hometown Holiday will kick off on Saturday, December 1, 5:00 p.m., at Drake Field.  This year, with the holiday concert in new pavilion, the entire event will be at Drake Field.  After the music gets everyone in the holiday spirit, Santa will arrive to light the tree at approximately 7:00 p.m., and meet with children of all ages.  There will be light refreshments available for purchase, cookie decorating, photo booth, face painting, s’mores, ice carving, and more.  Hosted by Dr. Tommy Turkiewicz and sponsored by American Black Belt Academy, Big O’s Golf Carts, C2education, Creative Learning Studios, Fuller Life Chiropractic, Kirk the TV Guy, MOBA, Saville Studios, Season in Bloom, and Your Pie.

Living Aviation History: The Mighty Eighth Air Force at CAF December 8

Two docents from the National Museum of The Mighty Eighth Air Force in Savannah, Ga., will be at the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Dixie Wing Warbird Museum at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 8 to tell the history of the “Mighty Eighth” and its role in disrupting the German war effort in World War II. The Eighth Air Force heavy bombers and fighters played a key role and contributed substantially to the Allied victory in 1945, and the docents will include a presentation of the B-17 technical highlights.

Health Insurance Open Enrollment Information Session on December 6

Do you have health insurance for 2019? Open Enrollment for the Affordable Care Act health insurance marketplace is November 1-December 15, 2018. If you need more information on choosing the right plan for you, attend the open enrollment information session at the Peachtree City Library on Thursday, December 6, at 6:30 p.m.  Brian Boss of BPB Associates will present information about the Affordable Care Act marketplace, choosing a health insurance plan, and how to enroll. FSS Project Love Underway Providing Holiday Meals for Seniors in Need

Fayette Senior Services is taking donations for Project Love, a supplement to the Meals On Wheels program offered to senior residents of Fayette County.  Many homebound, older adults in our community could be going hungry due to the difficulty of preparing meals, limited income, or illnesses that keep them from obtaining and preparing healthy foods.  Meals On Wheels helps address this need, but the budget does not cover holidays and weekends.  Project Love raises funds to provide meals on holidays and some weekends throughout the year.  Individuals, families, businesses, and churches can purchase a holiday meal for as little as $5.  Gifts are tax-deductible.  Learn more via the donation form at http://www.fayss.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Project-Love-Brochure-2018.pdf

Light Up The Night Toy Drive Underway

The Peachtree City Police Department and Police Auxiliary’s Light up the Night Toy Drive will have members of the department collecting new, unwrapped toys beginning on Saturday, November 24.  The first appearances are scheduled for:

CONSTRUCTION PROJECT UPDATES

Utility /Right-of-Way Projects

AT&T will be working in the right-of-way on Wisdom Road by Southland from now through the end of December.  They will also continue their work in Morallion Hills, Muirfield, Evian, Calgary Place, Wynnmeade, along Crosstown Drive and at 403 Dividend through the end of the year. 

COMCAST is working in Everton and Cresswind

REMINDER:  Utility work takes place in City-owned Right-of-Way or Utility Easements.  Please do not threaten contractors – they are allowed to work in this area whether you personally want the service or not. While it may be your “yard,” it is not your property.  Contractors will restore grass when done in the neighborhood – Residents should water new grass seed/sod after installation (the utilities do not return to keep grass seed/sod watered).  No one should have private sprinkler systems or electric dog fences in the public right-of-way, but if you do, please mark them when you see other utilities marked in your yard.  Utility contractors are not responsible for restoring these items, and locate services (811) will not know about them to mark them.

Burn Permits – Outdoor burning is allowed October 1 – April 30. Outdoor burn permits are required for residential yard debris burning.  Visit www.peachtree-city.org/burn to obtain permit for the day of burn (page is updated daily to reflect whether weather conditions allow for burning on that day). 

“My Community Officer” Program – The Peachtree City Police Department’s “My Community Officer” program pairs officers who have volunteered to serve as individual points of contact with each neighborhood in Peachtree City for questions or issues on police related issues.  Learn more at www.peachtree-city.org/MyCommunityOfficer . Recycling – The Peachtree City Recycling Center (off Highway 74 S at Rockaway Road) accepts yard waste and e-waste and is open on Wednesdays, 1:00 – 4:30 p.m., and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Recycling Stations at Public Works are open 24/7 and include a used book drop. Tree Removal Permits – Tree removal permit applications are reviewed by the Planning and Zoning Department – visit www.peachtree-city.org/tree for FAQ and application.

Burn Permits – Outdoor burning is allowed October 1 – April 30. Outdoor burn permits are required for residential yard debris burning. Visit www.peachtree-city.org/burn to obtain permit for the day of burn (page is updated daily to reflect whether weather conditions allow for burning on that day).

“My Community Officer” Program – The Peachtree City Police Department’s “My Community Officer” program pairs officers who have volunteered to serve as individual points of contact with each neighborhood in Peachtree City for questions or issues on police related issues. Recycling – The Peachtree City Recycling Center (off Highway 74 S at Rockaway Road) accepts yard waste and e-waste and is open on Wednesdays, 1:00 – 4:30 p.m., and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Recycling Stations at Public Works are open 24/7 and include a used book drop. MedReturn Prescription Disposal Program – Citizens can bring unwanted prescriptions to the PTC Police Station Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (NO needles/sharps, syringes with needles, thermometers, IV bags, bloody or infectious waste, personal care products, empty containers, inhalers, medical equipment, liquids, creams, or hydrogen peroxide).
