D.A.R.E. Program

DARE Officer SmillyD.A.R.E.Positive interaction with Peachtree City's youth is a high priority for all members of our department.  Since 1993, fifth graders attending the City's elementary schools have had the opportunity to participate in the D.A.R.E. Program.

With the recent addition of a new elementary school, there are now six different elementary schools receiving D.A.R.E. instruction within the city. The D.A.R.E. Officer, Cpl. Paul Smilley, is responsible for teaching D.A.R.E. to almost 900 elementary aged students.  Due to the number of students in the City, an additional officer assists in the training.  Cpl. Holmes is a seasoned D.A.R.E officer, entering her fifth year of teaching.

As the fulltime D.A.R.E. Officer, Cpl. Paul Smilley has also been required to ensure that his lesson plan meets the new requirements set forth by the GBI. In the past, the D.A.R.E. course curriculum consisted of a seventeen-week lesson plan as opposed to the current ten-week lesson plan.

In addition, there was a need for Cpl. Smilley to interact with the other students located within the various schools. This new enhanced lesson plan has afforded Cpl. Smilley the time to interact with the other students to include speaking to classes and visiting with teachers.
