Building Permits:
Along with the construction of new buildings, the City of Peachtree City requires Building Permits be obtained for any structure over thirty inches high, or any structure which will in some way have an effect on life safety. Examples of items that will require permits are Accessory Buildings (sheds, detached garages, etc.), fences, swimming pools, decks, covered porches, retaining walls, and reroofing. A call to the Building Department can inform you as to whether or not your project will require a permit.

Projects requiring a permit must not be started until after the permit has been applied for, approved, picked up and paid for (see fee schedule). Any work that is performed prior to the permit being picked up and paid for will cause a Stop Work Order to be placed on the property and as a result, fees for the permit will be doubled. There is generally a 3-5 working day turnaround on most general permits. Permits for new/commercial construction will usually take longer. All permits must include a completed application as well as some sort of plans. Contractor Licensing:
Effective July 1, 2008 all Residential and General Contractors will be required to be licensed in the state of Georgia. For further information please see the Secretary of States website.

MEP Permits:
Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing permits are required on ALL mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work done within the City. Permits must be pulled by a state licensed technician with a current business license/occupational tax certificate. There is a $80.00 minimum permit fee. Click here for the trade affidavit.

Irrigation Permits:
Irrigation permits are required on all irrigation systems within the City. While these systems may be installed by landscape companies, the permit must be pulled by a state licensed plumber with a current business license/occupational tax certificate. The plumber is responsible for ensuring that backflow prevention measures are properly met.

Responsibility:
Ultimately the property owner is responsible for what happens on their property. Ensuring that your contractors have all proper permits, licenses and certificates is your responsibility. Building and Irrigation Permits must be displayed so as they are in full view from the street in front of your property. Permits are not to be nailed to trees.
