Explorer Post 999

Over the past few years, Explorer Post 999 experienced many changes in leadership and recruitment. Many of the students who participated in the Explorer Post also currently participate in the Civil Air Patrol and have previous experience in the fields of law and medical services. The curriculum has been revamped to include training activities, youth related events and lecture-based presentations on a variety of exciting subjects.

An Explorer Post Advisor, Cpl. Mike Howell, and Sgt. Kay Crider direct Explorer Post 999.  These members volunteer their time and expertise to assist the Explorers with inventive training tasks and new law enforcement techniques.  This mentorship style approach of having officers work with the students has led to a newfound respect among the officers and youth.    Currently, the Peachtree City Police Department is the only Law Enforcement agency in Fayette County to offer an Explorer Program.

Due to the renewed interest in the positive benefits of this program, the Explorers were able to participate in many community based events over the past few years.  Some of these events include a tour of the police department, live Crime Scene Processing and scenarios based training, security at football and basketball games, the McIntosh High School Homecoming Parade, the Road Race Running Series, the Step Team Stomp Show and a CERT Team Disaster Training Exercise.

For more information on the Explorer Program, Contact Cpl. M. Howell at 770-631-3232.
