The Auxiliary Police Force was established to allow citizens the ability to assist their local law enforcement agency in various capacities. While not sworn or certified police officers, the auxiliary assisted the Police Department at large public gatherings, emergency operations and general neighborhood and business watch patrols. Current members include some very dedicated individuals. One member celebrated 17 years of service during 2009.
In the past, Auxiliary Officers have been able to assist the Special Response Team (SRT) in conducting some simulated SWAT exercises. They were beneficial in allowing SRT Officers to focus on training as a team and not have to participate as role players. Auxiliary Officers also become involved in other aspects of the Police Department. Two Auxiliary Officers attended and graduated from the Citizens Police Academy (CPA), while the Auxiliary Captain assists staff in various capacities.
Other activities in which Auxiliary Police Officers participate are:
Shakerag Arts Festival
McIntosh High School Football Games
McIntosh Graduation Ceremonies
Youth Arts Festival
March of Dimes
Walk America
Youth Triathlon
Peachtree City Classic Road Race
Alzheimer Memory Walk
Christmas Tree Lighting
Jingle Bell Run
Annual Police Department Christmas Banquet
