HOT ISSUES

Council Meets Thursday

The Peachtree City Mayor and Council will meet on Thursday, December 7, 7:00 p.m., at City Hall.  The public is welcome.  The agenda includes a public hearing for a requested variance to the No-Impervious Buffer at 102 North Cove, the contract for the MacDuff Pkwy/Hwy 54 intersection improvements, and a Year-End Fiscal Analysis (unaudited) for FY 2017.  The complete agenda and packet are available at www.peachtree-city.org/councilagenda


Peachtree City Run-Off Election Tomorrow

Peachtree City will hold a run-off election on Tuesday, December 5, for Mayor and Post 3 Council Member Post 3:

  • Mayor:  Vanessa Fleisch (Incumbent) and Eric Imker
  • Post 3:  Harold Logsdon and Kevin Madden

Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., and voters must go to their regular polling place.  Verify your regular polling place at https://www.mvp.sos.ga.gov/MVP/mvp.do


COMMUNITY NEWS

Final Night Market of 2017 This Saturday

Bundle up (it’s going to be chilly), but there will be hot beverages, hot soup, and smoking live music at Drake Field this Saturday evening from 5:00 – 10:00 p.m.  This will also be a great opportunity for some one of a kind Christmas gifts.  Golf Cart recommended.  This event is intended for those 18 and older (no children's activities provided). Library CLOSED Friday

The Peachtree City Library will be closed all day on Friday, December 8, for staff training.


Fire Department Santa Run – One Weekend Down, Two to Go

Each year, the Peachtree City Fire Department escorts Santa on an early visit through Peachtree City to help collect non-perishable food and toy donations for those in need this holiday season.  The event began this past weekend and will continue over December 9 & 10 and December 16 & 17 (Saturdays, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., and Sundays, 11:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.).  View the estimated route and schedule at http://www.peachtree-city.org/DocumentCenter/View/6512 (emergencies may alter the schedule).

 

Fire Department:  THANK YOU for Christmas Tree Fundraiser Success

The Peachtree City Fire Department Christmas Trees are SOLD OUT!!  Thank you to everyone who purchased a tree - proceeds will help the Volunteer Firefighters Association provide classes, equipment, and training for the Fire Department.  Santa will still be at Station 81 on Saturday, December 9, from noon – 3:00 p.m., for photos and fun.


Volunteers Needed for WASA – FINAL WEEK

The City of Peachtree City is accepting applications to serve on the Peachtree City Water & Sewerage Authority.  To serve on the Authority, applicants must have lived in Peachtree City for at least 6 months.  The Mayor and council appoint members to 5-year terms.   Application deadline is 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 8,  Visit http://www.peachtree-city.org/index.aspx?nid=145 for links to the PCWASA web site and applications to serve on the board.

 

Winter Activities Signup

  • Winter Lego Camps – December 18 – 22 at Kedron Fieldhouse.  Ages 5-7 have morning sessions, ages 7 – 12 afternoons.  Register at www.peachtree-city.org/recreation
  • MHS Chiefettes Holiday Dance Camp for Pre-K – 8th Grade – Saturday, December 9, 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.  $40 per camper, $25 for additional siblings.  Contact 770-460-3990 Ext. 470 to register. 
  • Learn to Skate with the PTC Inline Hockey League - Saturday December 9, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m., at 201 Fieldhouse Drive.   Ages 5 and up.  If possible, bring knee and elbow pads, a helmet (bicycle is fine) and skates (inline or roller).  Will can offer some equipment if you don’t have these.  Register at specialevents@ptchockey.com
  • Ultimate Frisbee Tournament - December 9 at the Peachtree City Athletic Complex (PAC). Open to men and women ages 15 and up (15-17 year olds need signed Liability Waiver from parent). Registration fee of $20 includes a jersey.  Sign-in starts at 8:00 a.m., and jersey sizes distributed first come, first served.  Register at https://apm.activecommunities.com/peachtreecityrec/Home (search “frisbee” to get both single and pair options). 


CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS & TRAFFIC ADVISORIES


Utility Projects in Rights-of-Way. 

  • AT&T has obtained encroachment permits to work throughout Fairfield, along MacDuff Parkway, and in the Lexington Circle area,
  • NuLink is continuing work in the rights-of-way installing fiber optic lines in/along:
    • Robinson Road (Peachtree Pkwy S to Crosstown)
    • The Estates
    • Peachtree Pkwy S (Robinson Rd to Merrywood Ln)
    • The Oaks at Timberlake and Huntington Place.


Lake Peachtree Spillway Replacement - August 2017 - June 2018.  An additional two feet of water is being restored to Lake Peachtree now that the bypass pipe for the cofferdam and construction area has been completed.  This should provide visible (if not very deep) water in the majority of the lake for the remainder of the spillway construction period.   More information, including the lake lowering schedule, is available at http://www.peachtree-city.org/index.aspx?nid=1123

  • Path Detour in effect – NO TRESPASSING!! The spillway construction zone path detour is now in effect and the “No Trespassing” signs will be enforced. The map at http://www.peachtree-city.org/DocumentCenter/View/10447 shows the alternate routes path users will take until the spillway construction zone is cleared.  Automobile drivers on Fishers Luck are asked to use extra caution and reduce speed in the coming months due to the carts sharing roadway.

Peachtree City Water & Sewerage Authority Meeting – Monday, December 4, 6:30 p.m., at 1127 S Highway 74.  The public is welcome. 

2018 ENCORE Preview/Planning Session – Thursday, December 7, 10:00 a.m. – noon, at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church (152 Antioch Rd, Fayetteville – Beltram Hall).  Attendees will learn more about the 9-week ENCORE leadership program for active retirees, area newcomers, Human Resources specialists, seniors, job seekers, community leaders and others interested in becoming more engaged in Fayette County. Those attending will receive $25.00 off the $175.00 ENCORE registration fee.  For more information, visit www.fayettefactor.org

Fayette Visioning Summit – Friday, December 8, 7:30 – 9:30 a.m., at Crowne Plaza Atlanta SW – Peachtree City.  Rob Parker, president & CEO of Pinewood Forrest, will be the keynote speaker, and the first part of the Summit will highlight successes in the four key areas, Community, Economy, Education and Place, and share the county's status on the 12 key performance indicators.  Doors open at 7:30 a.m. and a continental breakfast will be available. Tree Removal Permits – Tree removal permit applications are reviewed by the Planning and Zoning Department – visit www.peachtree-city.org/tree for FAQ and application.

Burn Permits Required – Outdoor burn permits are required for residential yard debris burning.  Visit www.peachtree-city.org/burn to obtain permit for the day of burn (page is updated daily to reflect whether weather conditions allow for burning on that day). 

“My Community Officer” Program – The Peachtree City Police Department’s “My Community Officer” program pairs officers who have volunteered to serve as individual points of contact with each neighborhood in Peachtree City for questions or issues on police related issues.  Learn more at www.peachtree-city.org/MyCommunityOfficer. Please make sure the department has updated Homeowner Association contact information via this page as well. 

Recycling – The Peachtree City Recycling Center (off Highway 74 S at Rockaway Road) accepts yard waste and e-waste and is open on Wednesdays, 1:00 – 4:30 p.m., and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Recycling Stations at Public Works are open 24/7 and include a used book drop.
