HOT ISSUES

City Council Meets Thursday

The Peachtree City Mayor and Council will meet on Thursday, May 17, 6:30 p.m., at City Hall.  The public is welcome.  The agenda includes a request for additional staff in Police and Fire due to military deployments, an increase in the Cable Franchise Fee from 4% to 5%, and an Intergovernmental Agreement with Fayette County for $1.5 million in 2004 SPLOST funding for a roundabout (traffic circle) at Peachtree Pkwy and Crosstown Dr.  Staff will also provide briefings on the spillway construction, economic development, and tree permit requirements (tree size changes) and a policy on public right-of-way usage.  For the complete agenda, visit www.peachtree-city.org/councilagenda


Planning Commission Meets Tonight

The Peachtree City Planning Commission will meet on Monday, May 14, 7:00 p.m., at City Hall.  The public is welcome.  The agenda includes a Public Hearing for an amendment request to the side setbacks for the ordinance for LUR-17 (rezoning for Senoia Rd approved earlier this year), along with the landscape plan for NAECO (100 NAECO Way).  The complete agenda and packet are available at www.peachtree-city.org/PlanningAgenda


Temporary Path Closure Notice – Lake Peachtree

The stormwater crews have discovered some voids under the path along the east side of Lake Peachtree between Highway 54 and Battery Way.  A temporary path is being constructed that residents can use until the Stormwater Crew replaces several sections of storm drain pipe over the next couple of weeks.

Golf Cart Safety Class on June 13

The Peachtree City Police Department will hold a Motorized Cart Class for 12 – 17 year olds on Wednesday, June 13, 1:00 – 5:00 p.m., at MOBA on Highway 74 S.  No need to bring a golf cart, we will provide one.   • Monday, May 14 – Fayette County Board of Commissioners (Erick Imker, Don Haddix, and Edge Gibbons), 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at McIntosh High School Auditorium
  • Tuesday, May 15 - U.S. 3rd Congressional District (Chuck Enderlin, Drew Ferguson, Rusty Oliver, and Philip Singleton), 6:30 – 8:00 p.m., at McIntosh High School.  The MHS Young Republicans, Young Democrats, and Young Libertarians are hosting this forum, which will be entirely student led, with questions on jobs, immigration, education, national defense, the Second Amendment, and healthcare.   


Ride of Silence on Wednesday

Be part of the local Ride of Silence on Wednesday, May 16, beginning at Bicycles Unlimited at Braelinn Shopping Center.  This annual event honors cyclists injured or killed while cycling on public highways.   All cyclists are invited for this 10-mile, slow-paced ride that will last approximately 1 hour (7:00 – 8:00 p.m. – arrive by 6:30 p.m.).  This event is free, helmets required.  Sponsored by SouthSide Cycling Club -  www.RideOfSilence.org

Peachtree City Recreation Summer Camp registration UNDERWAY –  Many of the Kedron Camps have sibling discounts.  Register early, many of the camps fill up fast.  Registration and camp information available online at www.peachtree-city.org/recreation and in person at Kedron Fieldhouse & Aquatic Center.

Teen CERT Summer Camp - The PTC Police Department will offer a Teen Emergency Response Team (CERT) camp for ages 12-17 during the week of June 11.  The deadline to apply is June 1.  Application and more information are available at http://www.cert-peachtreecity.com/teencert.htm

Camp WILD (Water, Insects, Leaves, Dirt!) registration – Southern Conservation Trust (SCT) will hold one-week half-day (8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.) sessions for children ages six – 12. The campers will explore the SCT’s public nature areas, as well as participate in arts and crafts and traditional camp activities. The sessions begin June 18, June 25, July 9, and July 16. The cost is $75 per week for members and $90 per session for non-members. The camp is limited to 30 campers each session. CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS & TRAFFIC ADVISORIES

Hwy 54 Repaving, 54 W Traffic Projects

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is repaving Highway 54 between Peachtree City and Fayetteville.  The resurfacing work started April 30.  Milling and paving work will take place primarily at night to reduce the impact on traffic flow.


SPLOST Projects on 54 W Wrapping Up

  • Planterra Way/Hwy 54 (SPLOST Project #4) – Construction continues (new equipment, detection system, signal heads, and a new mast arm).
  • MacDuff Parkway/Hwy 54 (SPLOST Project #5) – Construction continues (new equipment, detection system, signal heads).

Both projects must be completed before GDOT will grant approval for opening the new turn lanes. 


Lake Kedron Bridge Pilings and Lowered Lake Level 

UPDATED!! Lake Kedron has been lowered for the City’s contractor to recoat the pilings and sway bracing. Fayette County is also scheduling dock maintenance while the lake is lowered. The City’s bridge project is expected to be completed by the end of July, weather dependent.


Lake Peachtree Spillway Replacement Continues through June 2018

The valve has been closed to allow Lake Peachtree’s water level to rise by two feet.  There will be an update on the Spillway Construction Project at the City Council meeting on Thursday, May 17.  Info will be posted here next week.  

  • Path Detour in effect – NO TRESPASSING!! The spillway construction zone path detour area is a “No Trespassing” zone and will be enforced. The map at http://www.peachtree-city.org/DocumentCenter/View/10447 shows the alternate routes path users will take until the spillway construction zone is cleared.  Automobile drivers on Fishers Luck are asked to use extra caution and reduce speed in the coming months due to the carts sharing the roadway.
  • DO NOT DRIVE ON Lake Bed – Please keep cars and golf carts off the lake bed.  They sink in the mud (proven two more times last week).


Drake Field Pavilion – Construction Zone

The construction zone fencing is in place for work to begin on the Drake Field Pavilion.  The goal is to have the project completed for the 4th of July (but, as always, weather may influence construction schedules).


Utility Projects (All dates are weather dependent)

  • Golfview Stormwater & Sewer Project Begins April 9 - Some road closures will be required.  The contractor for the City of Peachtree City and the Peachtree City Water and Sewerage Authority will begin a major sewer/stormwater project in the Golfview neighborhood on Monday, April 9.  The project involves new lines going through the easement from Golfview Drive (at 618 Golfview) near Cockspur Court, crossing just west of 210 Oakmount and just west of 303 Pinemount.  Each of these roadways will require temporary closures to accommodate the pipe replacement work, but each street provides alternate access routes for those on either side of the closures.  The entire project should be completed by the end of August.  Please call 770-487-5183 for more information.

  • AT&T is installing new underground cable lines throughout Planterra Ridge beginning in May.  The contractor will restore sod/grass in the right-of-way by completion of the project.  Work also continues in Everton Phase 2 & 3 (through July 31)
  • ALL RESIDENTS:  Although no one should have private sprinkler systems or electric dog fences in the public right-of-way, if you do, please mark them when you see other utility locates in your yard.  The utility contractors are not responsible for restoring these items, and 811 will not know about them to mark them.  


CALENDAR

Primary Election Advance Voting – Monday – Friday, April 30 – May 18, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., at the PTC Library, Tyrone Town Hall, and Fayette County Public Meeting Room.  The PTC Library will be closed on Friday, May 11; however, the rear entrance will be open for Advance Voting in the Floy Farr Room. Saturday voting will be held on May 12, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Fayetteville location ONLY.

Graduation Signs & Banners – No Permit Required May 1 – June 12, the graduation season is rapidly approaching, and Peachtree City waives the $30 fee for graduation signs/banners at subdivision entrances for the period of May 1 – June 12.  Banners cannot exceed 35 sq. ft. and must be attached to stakes (not fences, trees, utility poles, or signs).  Banners cannot go in the right-of-way or medians, and cannot obstruct vehicular or pedestrian traffic or visibility.  Graduation signs in private yards do not require permits, but also have size and placement restrictions.  For all the details, visit http://ga-peachtreecity2.civicplus.com/DocumentCenter/Home/View/1821

Police Appreciation Week – May 13 – 19, local residents are working in conjunction with the volunteer Peachtree City Police Auxiliary to show appreciation to our local department.  On Thursday & Friday, May 17 and 18, there will be a celebration covering all shifts of the department with a variety of special surprises being planned.  Donations from PTC businesses and residents are welcome.  If you wish to donate, please make checks payable to the Peachtree City Police Auxiliary, 350 Hwy 74 S, Peachtree City, GA 30269 (Please include “Police Appreciation” on the memo line -- Contributions of $50 or more will receive a tax exempt letter for tax filing).  If you have questions, please email Marianne at sheeple53@aol.com .

Recycling – The Peachtree City Recycling Center (off Highway 74 S at Rockaway Road) accepts yard waste and e-waste and is open on Wednesdays, 1:00 – 4:30 p.m., and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Recycling Stations at Public Works are open 24/7 and include a used book drop. UPDATED!! Lake Kedron has been lowered for the City’s contractor to recoat the pilings and sway bracing. Fayette County is also scheduling dock maintenance while the lake is lowered. The City’s bridge project is expected to be completed by the end of July, weather dependent.


Lake Peachtree Spillway Replacement Continues through June 2018
The valve has been closed to allow Lake Peachtree’s water level to rise by two feet. There will be an update on the Spillway Construction Project at the City Council meeting on Thursday, May 17. Info will be posted here next week.
• Path Detour in effect – NO TRESPASSING!! The spillway construction zone path detour area is a “No Trespassing” zone and will be enforced. The map at http://www.peachtree-city.org/DocumentCenter/View/10447 shows the alternate routes path users will take until the spillway construction zone is cleared. Automobile drivers on Fishers Luck are asked to use extra caution and reduce speed in the coming months due to the carts sharing the roadway.
• DO NOT DRIVE ON Lake Bed – Please keep cars and golf carts off the lake bed. They sink in the mud (proven two more times last week).


Drake Field Pavilion – Construction Zone
The construction zone fencing is in place for work to begin on the Drake Field Pavilion. The goal is to have the project completed for the 4th of July (but, as always, weather may influence construction schedules).


Utility Projects (All dates are weather dependent)
• Golfview Stormwater & Sewer Project Begins April 9 - Some road closures will be required. The contractor for the City of Peachtree City and the Peachtree City Water and Sewerage Authority will begin a major sewer/stormwater project in the Golfview neighborhood on Monday, April 9. The project involves new lines going through the easement from Golfview Drive (at 618 Golfview) near Cockspur Court, crossing just west of 210 Oakmount and just west of 303 Pinemount. Each of these roadways will require temporary closures to accommodate the pipe replacement work, but each street provides alternate access routes for those on either side of the closures. The entire project should be completed by the end of August. Please call 770-487-5183 for more information.

• AT&T is installing new underground cable lines throughout Planterra Ridge beginning in May. The contractor will restore sod/grass in the right-of-way by completion of the project. Work also continues in Everton Phase 2 & 3 (through July 31)
• ALL RESIDENTS: Although no one should have private sprinkler systems or electric dog fences in the public right-of-way, if you do, please mark them when you see other utility locates in your yard. The utility contractors are not responsible for restoring these items, and 811 will not know about them to mark them.


CALENDAR

Primary Election Advance Voting – Monday – Friday, April 30 – May 18, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., at the PTC Library, Tyrone Town Hall, and Fayette County Public Meeting Room. The PTC Library will be closed on Friday, May 11; however, the rear entrance will be open for Advance Voting in the Floy Farr Room. Saturday voting will be held on May 12, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Fayetteville location ONLY.

Graduation Signs & Banners – No Permit Required May 1 – June 12, the graduation season is rapidly approaching, and Peachtree City waives the $30 fee for graduation signs/banners at subdivision entrances for the period of May 1 – June 12. Banners cannot exceed 35 sq. ft. and must be attached to stakes (not fences, trees, utility poles, or signs). Banners cannot go in the right-of-way or medians, and cannot obstruct vehicular or pedestrian traffic or visibility. Graduation signs in private yards do not require permits, but also have size and placement restrictions. Police Appreciation Week – May 13 – 19, local residents are working in conjunction with the volunteer Peachtree City Police Auxiliary to show appreciation to our local department. On Thursday & Friday, May 17 and 18, there will be a celebration covering all shifts of the department with a variety of special surprises being planned. Recycling – The Peachtree City Recycling Center (off Highway 74 S at Rockaway Road) accepts yard waste and e-waste and is open on Wednesdays, 1:00 – 4:30 p.m., and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Recycling Stations at Public Works are open 24/7 and include a used book drop.
