1. How do I file a complaint?

Complaints can be filed in multiple ways. You can call the Code Enforcement Hotline, which is 770-631-2588 Option #2, then 2. 

You can also call the Peachtree City Police Department at 770-487-8866 and ask to be connected to Code Enforcement, or you can email code enforcement.

2. Can I remain anonymous?

Yes! Code enforcement complaints can be made anonymously; however, we will not be able to get back with you if we need any additional information regarding the specifics of the complaint or let you know if the issue is in fact not an ordinance violation.

3. Do ordinances only apply to areas of my property that can be see from the road?

No! Ordinances are applicable to the entire property. For instance, a violation of high grass and weeds is not simply for the front yard -- it includes the front, sides, and rear. The codes are intended to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens and visitors of the City -- they are not purely for aesthetic purposes.

4. Can I park my car in the front yard?

No. No automobile may be parked in the front yard. 

5. Is parking on the street a violation?

No, it is not a City Ordinance violation. Some covenants restrict parking on streets, but this can only be enforced by the HOA. 

If you believe a parked car is creating a safety hazard, please contact the Police Department.

6. How tall can grass be?

Peachtree City ordinance states that grass/weeds can be no taller than eight (8) inches in height in the front, sides, and rear of the property.

7. Can you make my neighbor rake their leaves, trim their shrubs, or cut down a tree?

No. There are no ordinances that cover these issues.

8. What is the schedule for outdoor watering?

Year-round watering restrictions (Level 1) exist and are listed below, and additional restrictions may be imposed by the State Department of Natural Resources/EPD via the Fayette County Water System during higher drought conditions (Level 2 or higher). Please follow the link at the bottom to determine if additional restrictions apply.

Outdoor watering (includes sprinkler systems, personal at-home car washing, and personal at-home pressure washing [not private companies performing these services]) are restricted to the following days/times:

- Odd-numbered addresses can water on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays before 10:00 AM and after 4:00 PM
- Even-numbered and unnumbered addresses can water on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays before 10:00 AM and after 4:00 PM
- NO OUTDOOR WATERING ON FRIDAYS
- NO OUTDOOR WATERING between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM

Exceptions:

The following outdoor water uses are allowed daily at any time of the day by anyone:

- Commercial agricultural operations as defined in Code Section 1-3-3;
- Capture and reuse of cooling system condensate or storm water in compliance with applicable local ordinances and state guidelines;
- Reuse of gray water in compliance with Code Section 31-3-5.2 and applicable local board of health regulations adopted pursuant thereto;
- Use of reclaimed waste water by a designated user from a system permitted by the Environmental Protection Division of the department to provide reclaimed waste water;
- Irrigation of personal food gardens;
- Irrigation of new and replanted plant, seed, or turf in landscapes, golf courses, or sports turf fields during installation and for a period of 30 days immediately following the date of installation;
- Drip irrigation or irrigation using soaker hoses;
- Hand watering with a hose with automatic cutoff or handheld container;
- Use of water withdrawn from private water wells or surface water by an owner or operator of property if such well or surface water is on said property;
- Irrigation of horticultural crops held for sale, resale, or installation;
- Irrigation of athletic fields, golf courses, or public turf grass recreational areas;
- Installation, maintenance, or calibration of irrigation systems; or
- Hydro seeding.

9. Can I have an RV or Camper at my home?

Campers and RVs, as well as boats and trailers are not allowed to be at the front or side of a residential zoning lot. They must be located in the rear yard.

We do understand that you may need to have these items at your residence for a short period of time to properly prepare for or finish up a trip. We allow one day on either side of the trip for this to take place. We would appreciate if you called the Code Enforcement Hotline at 770-631-2588 (220) to let us know. This can avoid you being given a notice for non-compliance.

You may also have a visitor or guest park their RV for a limited amount of time on your driveway. Call the Code Enforcement Hotline to obtain an RV exemption.

10. Can someone stay in an RV or Camper?

No- no one may stay overnight in an RV or Camper. 

11. What happens if I do not comply with a Notice of Violation?

Code Enforcement Officers are sworn officers of the court, giving them authority to write citations to the Peachtree City Municipal Court. Citations require your attendance at court and fines can be as high as $1,000. Additional penalties, such as community service and even up to six months in jail may be applied.
